MORE IMPORTANT PROJECTS, TASKS 1999-2011

2011

  • In June, our charity event named III. International Rotary Golf Cup and Family Day was held with hugesuccess with the participation of more than forty competitors.
  • After long preparatory work, and with a very serious background of sponsors, the Rotary-House will beopened on 04.10.2011, on the first anniversary of the red sludge catastrophe, to promote the intellectualand cultural enrichment of Devecser and its area. The House will give home to the institution of the localMusic School. The reconstruction of the building was financed completely from supports. To ensure themaintenance of the building, an agreement was signed with the local municipality, in which themunicipality agreed to ensure the long-term operation of the Music School.

2010

  • Due to the stormy weather, our caritative event, the II. International Rotary Golf Cup and Family Day – that was originally planned to take place in summer – was organised in September.
  • On 20 February 2010 a charity event was organised with our partner clubs in Hotel Gizella. Through jointaction with the local organisations of the Lion’s and Zonta clubs, we supported the “Éltes Mátyás”Daycare Institute of Persons Living with Disabilities with the purchase of the listed tangible assets(outdoor table tennis table, table football table, various board games, portable HIFI set).
  • A multi-phase action plan was created to mitigate the consequences of the grave chemical catastrophe inthe area of the Veszprém County Devecser. Beyond the immediate financial support in the amount ofseveral million HUF, long-life food distribution in the amount of more than three million HUF wasorganised at Christmas together with our partner charity organisations (Caritas, Hungarian Baptist Aid,Hungarian Maltese Charity Service). Through cooperation with several foreign clubs, a lorry full of clothesand goods was transported to the storehouses operated by Caritas. The local organisation of the RedCross distributed these goods.
  • We continuously give financial support in every Rotary year to Rotary’s international “Polio Plus”programme aimed at the eradication of Polio.

2009

  • In May we started the tradition of organising the I. National Rotary Golf Cup and Family Day in thepicturesque Royal Balaton Golf Club in Balatonudvardi, with the participation of Rotarians and their familymembers from Hungary and the neighbouring countries.
  • The holiday organised in Zánka for the Hungarian children from Transylvania was very successful this year as well.
  • The youth club of the village of Kálnok – located near Sepsiszentgyörgy – was given a 20.000 USDsupport together with RC Passau in the framework of international Matching Grants (bicycles, sportsequipment). Due to this, the members of the Local Bicycle Club can now cycle around the neighbourhoodwith professionals bicycles.
  • This year we organised and arranged for the participation of thirty youngsters and adults – living withdisabilities – from Veszprém in the gala concert titled “The World is Better with us” organised in PappLászló Budapest Sports Arena.
  • Rotary Club Veszprém celebrated its tenth anniversary in November. Very many friends and guestsparticipated in the two-day event, who contributed to the importance of the event with their presenceand their contributions.
  • We continuously give financial support in every Rotary year to Rotary’s international “Polio Plus”programme aimed at the eradication of Polio.

2008

  • We established relations with the Passau club of Rotary Club. The relations between the towns ofVeszprém and Passau go back to a thousand years since Queen Giselle of Bavaria came to Hungary fromthis town and she also retreated there at the end of her life. Beyond the twin town relations, the Rotaryrelations are also being extended.
  • In June 2008 the agreement concerning the establishment of the partner club was signed with RotaryClub Passau.
  • 20 children from the little settlement called Kálnok, located by the Transylvanian twin town of Veszprém,Sepsiszentgyörgy, were hosted in the holiday resort of Zánka by Lake Balaton for the first time.
  • For the first time, we organised the Prince-Rotary tennis championship in Veszprém, with theparticipation of the forty best male players in Hungary. The event and the related media coveragecontributed to the higher awareness of the Rotary brand.
  • In November, we provided for the participation of more than forty children and adults – living withdisabilities – from Veszprém in the event titled “The World is Better with us” in the organisation of whichthe Hungarian Rotary society played a very important role. The concert was organised in the BudapestArena.
  • We continuously give financial support in every Rotary year to Rotary’s international “Polio Plus”programme aimed at the eradication of Polio.

2007

  • In 2007 very much energy was put into the establishment of an independent Hungarian Rotary Districttogether with the management and members of the Hungarian Rotary. We could participate in thefoundation ceremony of the District on 30 June 2007.
  • We started to build partnership relations with RC Passau.


2006

  • In spring 2006 the previously collected support in the amount of 1.000.000 HUF was distributed amongthe victims of the infamous flood of 2005 in Bakonybél and Bánd.
  • We organised a charity concert with the star guest Tamás Vásáry, pianist and conductor, to help theMusic School of Balatonalmádi, which was in a difficult situation.
  • In the course of several family trips, our members familiarised themselves with the historic wine regionof the Balaton Uplands and Somló as well as their excellent wines, but family members also met in afamily pig-killing feast.
  • We continuously give financial support in every Rotary year to Rotary’s international “Polio Plus”programme aimed at the eradication of Polio.

2005

  • In February 2005 we organised a ball together with the Lions Club of Veszprém, the income of whichenabled us to support the victims of the tsunami in Sri Lanka.
  • In May 2005 the club asked the band called Republic to give a charity concert in Veszprém, the net profitof which was used to support the foreign study trips of students from Veszprém.
  • In June 2005 seven secondary school students from Veszprém were sent for two weeks to Werl in theNorth-Rhine Westphalia district to learn German and to get to know the German culture and Germanschools in families, together with German children of their age.
  • From September 2005 we supported the studies at Humbold University of Berlin of the university studentZita Sárvári through the Berlin Rotary club for the period of a term.
  • In November 2005 we organised the II. RotART Gala, where the RotART Award was distributed in thecategories of music and dance. The organisation of the event enabled us to collect support in the amountof approximately 1.000.000 HUF.
  • We helped a talented, young RotART awarded artist from Veszprém, István Zacher to get to the WalterKoschatzky Kunst-Preis competition.
  • We continuously give financial support in every Rotary year to Rotary’s international “Polio Plus”programme aimed at the eradication of Polio.

2004

  • On 6 March 2004 we organised the charity concert of the American band called Soldiers of Swing inVeszprém. The net profit of the evening (300.000 HUF) was donated to the children living withdisabilities of Bárczy Gusztáv Primary School in Veszprém.
  • On 21 November 2004 the RotART Gala was organised in the aula magna of the University of Pannonia,where the RotART Award – established by us – was awarded for the year 2004 to three painters andthree photographers, with a connection to Veszprém, who are not yet well-known artists. The aim of theaward is to professionally support the selected artists for a period of one year in order to enable them toappear at as many exhibitions as possible, to have their pictures enframed and to establish businessrelations. We managed to find well-known sponsors to support the gala evening such as Continetal TevesKft, CITIBANK, HVB Hungary Rt, SCD Hungary Rt. and Sopronbank Rt. – to mention only the biggestones. Approximately 160 guests participated in the gala evening. This exquisite music and danceprogramme served as the opening ceremony to the exhibition which displayed a selection from the workof the awarded artists.
  • We continuously give financial support in every Rotary year to Rotary’s international “Polio Plus”programme aimed at the eradication of Polio.

2003

  • In 2003 we started to organise a charity gala – with the Dutch and German clubs with which we havehad an established partnership relationship for some time – which was organised in Werl at the end ofMarch 2004. The well-known Hungarian brass quintet, Brass in the Five gave a very successful concert atthis event. Of the evening’s income, we could donate more than 20.000,- € to Rotary International’sPolio Plus project. The international Rotary movement launched an action programme to curb Polio, thedisease that mainly affects children in Africa. The money collected in the framework of this programme isused to finance health programmes.

2001

  • From 2001 we started to organise student exchange programmes, as a result of which three universitystudents from Veszprém travelled to France last year, in the framework of the exchange programmeestablished with the Rotary Club of Nantes. The university student Zsuzsanna Lukács spent 9 months inthe USA with a scholarship at the University of Georgia in 2004.

2000

  • In spring 2000 we participated in a charity fair in the Dutch Seewolde, where we sold Hungarianproducts. This work was part of the cooperation established between the German Werl, the above-mentioned Dutch club and the Rotary Club of Veszprém.
  • As a result of the above-mentioned cooperation, in 2001 we could finance the operation of a child withheart disease from Veszprém in Germany by doubling the donation of the German and Dutch clubs in thefund of the Rotary International Matching Grant. This allowed the collection of nearly 25.000 USD, whichproved to be enough to cover most of the operation-related expenses. The remaining part was coveredfrom the donations of our German friends, mainly from the private donations of Mr Wolfgang Farendlaand Mr Franz Schulte-Stratthaus. The operation was successful and the little patient has been healthyever since.
